Steampunk is a subgenre of science fiction as well as an aesthetic style concept that combines elements of the 19th century, especially the Victorian era and industrialization, with futuristic technologies. Typical is the idea that technical developments are not based on electricity, but on steam engines and mechanics. Steampunk is used in literature, film, art, design, fashion and in subcultures that cultivate this aesthetic as a form of expression.
