Black light refers to ultraviolet light (UV-A), which is largely invisible to the human eye and only becomes visible through reflection on certain materials. Under black light, fluorescent substances, colors and materials begin to glow intensely, creating special visual effects.
In photography, black light is used specifically to create mystical, surreal or gloomy atmospheres. Especially in fantasy, dark fashion or Halloween shoots with male models, black light enables a strong visual effect, as it creates extraordinary visual worlds in combination with UV-active make-up, fluorescent contact lenses, body painting or glass objects. It emphasizes contours, creates high-contrast lighting effects and transforms the model into an almost supernatural appearance.
This makes black light an important stylistic device for taking the connection between body, fashion and staging in photography to a new, experimental level.
